"The famous actress is a lesbian! She divorced her husband and is now dating a famous singer."

You may have seen headlines like this before. You may have since assumed that the actress is indeed a lesbian, but you may also be wondering: What if she's attracted to both men and women?

Where is the truth? Homosexual people who are in relationships with people they are not attracted to do exist. But there are also people who are sexually attracted to more than one gender or sex, and finding a different partner does not change their sexual orientation.

If we label a person who we know is sexually oriented to at least two genders or two sexes as homosexual or heterosexual, this is bisexual erasure , sometimes also called "býmaz" . By automatically assuming that a man in a relationship with a woman is heterosexual, or that two men in a relationship are homosexual, we ignore the fact that there are other sexual orientations in the world , whether bisexual, pansexual, asexual or other. Denying bisexuality is part of the so-called biphobia , i.e. discrimination against bisexual people.

What exactly is the harm in deliberately ignoring bisexuality?

    1. It is about denying identity and disrespecting how we label ourselves and how we want others to perceive us.
    2. It gives people around us incorrect information about the world around us, i.e. that someone has a different sexual orientation than they actually do.

  • He denies that a person who moved from one relationship to another truly loved their partner.

But why does "over-oiling" occur?

  1. People generally have a lack of awareness about bisexuality, but also other sexual orientations. When they see a couple of two people of different sexes, they will think that they are heterosexual. When they see a couple of two people of the same sex, they will think that they are homosexual. It does not occur to them that one of them may be, for example, asexual and the other bisexual.
  2. Even in the professional community, there are opinions that bisexuality does not exist. Some Czech sexologists and some Czech sexologists deny bisexuality because, according to them, each person ultimately decides for a partner of one sex. This would mean, of course, that each of us is oriented towards only one person on Earth . In addition, there are people in the world who are in a sexual relationship with multiple people, even of different sexes. However, if such opinions are expressed by a medical authority and the media provide it with space, few people will question them.
  3. Bisexuality is also questioned within the queer community , such as among gays and lesbians. Some people feel that their homosexual community is in danger of dying out , or are simply afraid that awareness of bisexuality will lead to their partners leaving their relationships for other people .

How to fight against it?

  1. If we don't know the person's sexual orientation, we don't try to guess or invent it . We can simplify the statement at the beginning of the article by writing that the actress broke up with her husband and entered into a relationship with a singer.
  2. However, if we know that the person in question is bisexual and it makes sense to include this information in the text, we will mention bisexuality .
  3. We raise awareness about bisexuality by talking about it with friends , sharing posts about bisexuality on social media , and so on.
  4. We are finding out information about bisexuality and trying to get rid of prejudices against it .
